Congratulations to one of our amazing By the Bridge young people, George*, who was recently picked as one of the top students in his year academically.

George was put forward for the aspire scheme (introduced by the Brilliance Club) which is designed to encourage students to apply for elite universities and has been given the opportunity to work with a PhD tutor to develop his critical thinking, academic writing skills and time management.

With these new skills, his final assessment, a 2,000 word A-Level standard piece of work on “Can texts fight colonialism and inequality?” was graded at university standards, and he achieved a fantastic grade equivalent to a 3rd class Honours Degree!

George’s Foster Parent, Alan Johnson, said: “This is a huge achievement for a child who had frequently missed classroom time prior to joining us at By the Bridge and one which has made him state that is proud of himself for submitting the work, which for George to feel proud of himself is another huge achievement!”

He added: “Gary and I couldn’t be prouder of him!”

With only 6% of looked after children going onto higher education, this is another fantastic example showcasing pure commitment from our Foster Families and dedicated young people.
