Over the years, By the Bridge has built a strong track record of successfully handling particularly problematic and emergency situations and has become an excellent first choice of placement for all ages. The resilience, professionalism and therapeutic interventions on offer from our foster parents are regarded as an ideal response to extreme challenges.
By the Bridge has developed expertise in understanding disturbed attachment patterns and offering effective interventions has lead to increasingly younger children being successfully placed in our organisation. Our families offer a viable therapeutic alternative to expensive residential care. We also believe that therapeutic fostering can reduce the likelihood of young children requiring residential care as they get older.
We closely monitor the progress of all children and young people in our care and have developed a comprehensive electronic database in order to provide sophisticated outcomes reports to local authorities later in 2010.
We have embraced the Every Child Matters initiative and have developed systems dedicated to both foster parents and children and young people in our care:
- Foster parents complete and submit diaries that report many details of their provision within every area of Every Child Matters, including indicators of their progress and successes
- The Certificate in Therapeutic Fostering is a one year course that all our foster families are encouraged to embark upon and which is credit rated by the University of Greenwich
- Regional education advisors help to oil the cogs of the education system in difficult or complex situations, to ensure each child’s chances are optimised
- Get a Life-Style is a personal development programme for young people preparing for independent living and employment
- TAPACY training course helps young people understand their interactions and enhance their relationship skills
- Numerous allowances within the fees to foster parents stipulate expectations about activities, interests, celebration, standards of hygiene and clothing, holiday, individuality
- Participation of young people in developing our services. We encourage feedback on everything we do
In doing this course it will enable me to learn how to be more confident in myself, and become better at things I am struggling with at the moment.
I applaud your reports which are really easy to read and include the young person’s views really well. Also (the foster parents) are all so supportive about (By the Bridge) which I don’t see very often, if at all, and there are innovative training and therapeutic plans coming from the company that I don’t see from any other source.
